The Thirteenth Letter

Rochelle twirled her quill between her finger tips, staring into space. The air was hot in her room, even with the window open… the last days of summer were beckoning her, but she wasn’t about to leave this unfinished.
She glanced down at her work, counting off envelopes. One, two… 12 letters, each long and personal and maybe definitely a bit rambling, but full of affection for the members of the study group that she called her closest friends. She’d been sending them off every two weeks like clockwork. Sometimes she got replies, sometimes she got nothing but silence, but either way, Rochelle kept writing.
…it was the thirteenth letter that she was having trouble with.
She never got a response from him, but… more than that, he didn’t accept them. Saguaro would fly away with thirteen letters and return with one.
Rochelle still had them all. Just in case… she had a chance to see him again, in person. Maybe before she had to go back to Hogwarts. He… hadn’t contacted her at all so far, and… he’d blocked off his fireplace… so she couldn’t visit him easily, but… surely, he’d want to see her before she left again!
She forced herself to smile as she finished off her letter. Keep it light, friendly. Talk about that nice Welsh boy she’d met for tea the other day (leave out the part where she’d ‘gotten to know him a bit’), mention how she was making a bit of spending money by dog-sitting (leave out the fact that they were wizard’s dogs). Normal, she was still normal, she just had to assure him of this!
Rochelle signed her letter, keeping her hand as steady as she could, trying to stay calm. This… yes, this was definitely gonna be the letter he accepted! There was no way he’d turn this one away, right?
The envelope sealed itself, and she wrote his name on the front in jade green ink.
Surely… this letter he’d read.
Her father wouldn’t ignore her forever… right?
