Okay, so I’m going with the idea that Jadebloods are all gonna grow up to tend to Mother Grubs. That’s my thing.
So I like to imagine that whatever lusus chooses them, they go in preparing them for that duty.
Rochen was raised to be more protective than aggressive, because her duties would never lead her to need to conquer and kill another race. Instead, she’s grown up with this extremely fierce guardian instinct. She won’t be the first to start killing, but if her charge is wounded, she will be the LAST.
In adulthood, this would apply to the Mother Grub, but in the Medium she’s kind of been ‘adopting’ trolls willy-nilly. They’re more than her friends, they’re under her protection.
I think this kind of applies to Kanaya, too. That chainsaw didn’t come out until her ‘charges’ came under attack.
