Underrated Disney couples.
Okay most of these are fine and standard.

Phineas and Esmeralda. oh my god.
I watched the movie when I was a lot younger, so I don’t remember a whole lot about it. Needless to say when I read the book I was pretty goddamn surprised by how much they changed. But Phineas in the original is a fucking shithead who gets off far too light for what he does. Uh I guess if you don’t want spoilers don’t read the rest.
Anyway he is a womanizer who finds Esmeralda hot and wants to bang her, so he pretends to be in love with while making sure his fiancee doesn’t know. Before they do it though Frollo (who had been watching) angrily attacks Phineas and kills him. Or so the law thinks, and they believe Esmeralda used gypsy magic in the process of getting to Phineas. So she’s sentenced to death but manages to flee into the church. However, Phineas is actually alive and doing pretty well after he recovers. But news of that doesn’t get to where Esmeralda is and he doesn’t bother seeing what happened to her because then his fiancee would find out. In the end, despite all the efforts made to save her, Esmeralda is dragged to the gallows and hung - which Phineas could have easily prevented just by going “Oh by the way I’m alive and it was some other asshole who attacked me.” The worst thing to happen to Phineas is that it’s hinted his marriage will not be a good one but when you weigh that against being killed…
So now the fact that the Disney version has a romance between them is just really fucking hilarious to me.
