Unfortunately I’ve seen a lot of cosplayers of colour get faulted for doing characters of lighter skin, no matter how good their costumes are. yny

Like seriously. I mean, my experiences in this particular area are limited to online but I have seen cosplayers who just so happen to not be white get a lot of questions as to why they’re cosplaying a “white character” or outright get shit for it. In fact, I’ve seen it happen a lot more than people getting raged on for “whitewashing in cosplay”.
Also it really doesn’t make sense to compare Rose and Korra here because Rose doesn’t have a canonical race and Hussie’s basically said any and all ethnicity for the kids is fine, unlike Korra.
The only time I’ve ever seen a white person get shit for cosplaying a non-white character was when they did it in black face.
It’s shitty no matter what, but seriously.
